GoverDENSE team visits PLPR

From 4 – 8 July, the GoverDENSE team attended the 16th international conference of the international academic association on Planning, Law, and Property Rights in Ghent, Belgium. The conference presented the perfect opportunity to present the findings of our project up to now. In total, six presentations were held by the team.

Besides communicating our research findings, the conference also allowed us to visit the talks of our international colleagues. A broad array of topics was covered, including climate change, urban sprawl, housing affordability and informality. About 140 academics shared their research findings from many different countries. All discussions had in common that they took place at the intersection of planning, law, and property rights.

The program also included many social and cultural events, including a visit to the densification project Tondelier and a jazz concert performed by the Elias D'hooge trio. It also provided plenty of time to get to know the other PLPR members better, discuss our research over coffee or a beer, and discover the beautiful city of Ghent.

In the end, the conference sparked plenty of inspiration for our future research.
