Retreat

The GoverDense PhD students spent a week in the beautiful snowy landscapes of the Entlebuch UNESCO Biosphere, in Canton Luzern in Switzerland. Taking advantage of the inspiring surroundings, we alternated productive and focused working time with refreshing and regenerating walks through the snow. We stayed in an old but recently renovated little wooden cabin located on the edge of a residential plot, with all amenities needed for a productive stay, including a small wood stove. Although formerly located within the buildable zone, over the years the forest came closer and closer to the cabin, for which it is now zoned as forest area. For this reason, we were kindly asked “not to burn down the house as we will not get permission to build it up again”, making us once more aware of the impact of zoning restrictions. Fortunately, all went well - we did not burn down the cabin.
